Raft boating, trekking, jungle camping and much more.. Shendurney eco-tourism to woo tourists
For an added extra experience, the visitors arriving at Thenmala can now enjoy the serene beauty of nature at Shendurney. With its mesmerising scenery, Shendurney is tucked between the sky-high mountains of Western Ghats.
The forest department is gearing up to introduce the ecotourism project here with new adventure facilities and stay.
Bamboo raft, coracle and jeep safari have been arranged. The authorities are preparing for an immediate launch with new packages. The bamboo raft which can accommodate 15 persons at a time has already been made for the visitors. During the boat journey, the beauty of Thenmala Parappar dam and the forest can be enjoyed thoroughly.
Also the fascinating view of the entry of Kazhuthurutty river, the main tributary of the dam, can be watched here. The bamboo raft boating for one person costs Rs 100.
Facilities for night stay has also been arranged here. Stay for around 15 people has been arranged near Kalamkunnu area.
Kalamkunnu is surrounded by water on all four sides. Apart from stay, cooking arrangements are also made available.
Trekking is one other adventure that can be done here. The small island’s ecosystem houses various bird varieties. The tour package for two persons costs Rs 7500. Each additional person will have to pay Rs 1500.
Special boat safaris are arranged for the visitors. Elephants, wild buffaloes, deer, pigs and many other animals can be spotted during the boating. The open boats arranged by the forest department helps to view the animals in their natural habitat. Also the ancient stone tanks, used by the labours when sugarcane plantations existed instead of the Thenmala dam, also attracts the visitors.
There are also special packages for jeep safaris from Kalamkunnu to enjoy the stunning views of Western Ghats.
Tourists from The southern states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala are already flocking the region.
