Putting an end to controversies, Kappil tourism takes off

Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the Kappil Beach beautification project, aimed at promoting water sport activities.

Varkkala: Just 7 km away from Varkkala, Kappil beach is a confluence of sea, river and backwater. It received a makeover recently. After years of controversies and the undue delay and confusion following it, the Kappil tourism project has been realized finally.

Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the Kappil Beach beautification project, aimed at promoting water sport activities here.

The project, that was started during the reign of the previous government, was left midway due to allegations on environmental impact. The project as part of the 1000 days’ celebrations of Pinarayi government.

There are allegations that the previous government had completed more than half of the project.

The tourism project, locate near the Kappil Priyadarsini boat club, was developed by the union tourism department spending Rs 4 crore. The building was to be constructed in backwater on columns.

But as construction started, allegations were raised on coastal laws violation and backwater encroachment. But finally, the project has become a reality.
