Palode: The Meenmutti Hydel Tourism at the Nandiyode panchayat that has been closed for about ten years, is all set to welcome travelers with a new face. After the facelift the project will be open to public on Tuesday with minister MM Mani inaugurating the project. The hydel tourism project comes under electricity department.
The new project realized spending lakhs includes boating and other facilities for visitors.
The project was started way back in 2006 when AK Balan was the electricity minister. Following the Kumarakam boat tragedy, the boating services here was ceased.
After the renovation, now pedal boats that can accommodate three persons, low speed boats that can accommodate eight persons are made available.
Also cafeteria and children’s park are arranged here. Very soon, speed boats will be facilitated using the MLA fund.
The tourism project is setup near the Meenmutti hydroelectric project at the Vamanapuram river.
The tourist centre will be open from morning 6 am to evening 6 pm. The spot is situated at 5 km from Nandiyode on the Thiruvananthapuram-Thenkasi route.
