Matsyafed all set to attract tourists with ‘Pravahini’ and ‘Bhoomika’
Vaikom: The new aqua tourism package of Matsyafed has started in Vembanad lake which provide the tourists an opportunity to experience the beauty of the backwaters. C. K. Asha MLA inaugurated the two tour packages for a road trip and a boat trip.
The tour package allows tourists to view the sights of Palakkari tourism centre in Kottayam, Malippuram and Njarakkal tourism centres in Ernakulam district altogether. The road trip as part of the tourism package is named as ‘Bhoomika’ and the boat trip is named as ‘Pravahini’.
The MLA unveiled the sculpture of a mermaid built near Palakkari farm entrance. First road trip as part of the package was flagged off by Matsyafed chairman P. P. Chitharanjan. He said that all fish farms under Matsyafed are being renovated as part of tourism development.
A houseboat museum that displays a huge collection of ancient equipment used by fishermen folk also has been arranged. Santhosh and Udayan, the sculptors of the mermaid, and K. M. Saji, who built the houseboat, were honoured in the programme.
‘Pravahini’ boat trip carries six tourists in a boat and ‘Bhoomika’ road trip carries 15 persons in a vehicle. Both rides begin at 8.30 am from Palakkari. After breakfast, an hour and a half long Shikara boat ride through Vembanad lake can be enjoyed before moving to Palakkari. There are facilities for pedal boating and angling as well.
