Explore the unexplored waters of Karalad in Wayanad
There is an underrated, unexplored tourist spot in Wayanad – Karalad Tourism Centre – the lake and its premises. Karalad lake which expands in seven acres has become a favourite spot of visitors who are into adventure sports. The main attraction here is the serene beauty of the lake and the peaceful atmosphere.
The tourist spot which was opened for visitors on March 7, 2016 became popular for the Wayanad Adventure Camps setup here. Karalad lake is the second largest lake in Wayanad, Pookode being the first.
The tourism spot is opened on all days from 9 am to 5 pm. The entry fee is Rs 30 for an adult and Rs 20 for children here. Professional still cameras are charged Rs 100 and video cameras are charged Rs 200. Private vehicles are not allowed inside and parking space is also made available.
Boating is the most popular event here. Pedal boats that can accommodate two, country boats that can accommodate seven with boatman and kayaking boats are the specialties here.
Another attraction is the zip line across the lake. The 270m long zip line is the longest in south India.
Well-equipped children’s park is also arranged here.
Karalad lake is located 16 km from Kalpetta. More than a one-day trip, it is ideal for a two-day trip with friends and family. Tents are setup here facing the lake to facilitate the stay. Tourist packages are also available including food or excluding.
The cost of the packages varies according to seasons. For a three-member family it can range from Rs 25,00 to Rs 40,00.
