Thiruvananthapuram: Ernakulam district has become the most favourite destination of both domestic and foreign tourists. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram which was once the most loved tourist spot in Kerala, has been pushed to second spot in both categories now.
Within 10 years, Ernakulam had a giant leap in tourism sector. Kochi became the popular tourist spot as it had better travel facilities including flight service. Until 2017, Thrissur had the second most number of domestic travellers. But Thiruvananthapuram has been holding the position for the past two years.
Last year, most number of tourists visited Kerala from Britain. A total of 1,86,085 British tourists visited Kerala in 2019, which was 2,01,258 in 2018. The number dropped in one year as Flood and Nipah hit the state in 2018.
In 2019, a total of 1,09,859 tourists arrived in Kerala from UAE and the number was 96,552 in 2018. Also, 17,41,168 tourists came from Tamil Nadu and 11,32,245 from Karnataka.
