Bekal Fort - Ranipuram Skyway bus service proposed by Jose Kochikunnel
Rajapuram (Kasaragod): A skyway bus project connecting Bekal Fort and Ranipuram, the two major tourist spots in the district, has been suggested by Jose Kochikunnel, the construction engineer who first proposed the idea of Kanhangad-Kaniyur railway line. He has submitted a detailed project report in a meeting convened by union minister of state for tourism Alphons Kannanthanam in Kasaragod.
The skyway bus will provide a low-cost sky ride between Ranipuram and Bekal to the tourists. The skyway bus service will be conducted through a rope over the concrete pillars built parallel to Kanhangad – Panathur state highway. There is another plan to set up a skyway bus linking the tourist places in Pune and Mumbai also.
The cost of setting up a skyway bus will be only one tenth of constructing a road. Also the project does not need land acquisition, said Jose Kochikunnel. The skyway bus travels at a speed of 500 km per hour and can be operated with solar energy. It will also help to reduce the traffic on road. Majority of the tourists visit only Bekal Fort on their trip. If skyway bus is realized, they can also enjoy the natural beauty of Ranipuram.
