Adavi eco-tourism project attracts huge crowd, mints money
Konni: As the Karkkidaka rain pours down, Adavi, an eco-tourism destination here, is attracting tourists with its serene natural beauty.
At present, the daily income from various activities here ranges from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
The main crowd-pleaser here is the bowl boat (coracle) riding through the Kallar. The river that was dried up during the summer is now in full flow, thanks to the monsoon.
The ecotourism project launched in 2014, offers a package comprising adventurous bowl boat ride in Adavi, the Konni Elephant Reserve and the trekking through Kattathipara. Those making advance bookings will be provided facility to say in bamboo huts.
Now, 30 bowl boats are in service here. The short-duration rides will be charged Rs 400 per head while a long-duration trip will cost Rs 800 a person.
From April 2016 to March 2017, Adavi generated an income of Rs 2.01 crore. In May 2017 alone, the revenue was around Rs 12.50 lakh. Interestingly, the revenue from the bowl boat ride crossed Rs 1 lakh mark in certain days.
For accommodation, tree houses have been arranged at a rate of Rs 4000 per day. On a monthly average, the tree houses are getting up to 35 bookings.
This apart, there are many takers for the 30-km Kattathipara-Chelikkal jeep safari through forest.
