Thiruvananthapuram: The beach carnival organized jointly by city Corporation, Shankumugham Art Museum, District Tourism Promotion Council and Vyloppilli Sanskrit Bhavan commenced at Shankumugham beach on Friday.
This is the first time the state capital is witnessing a beach carnival. Minister AK Balan inaugurated the seven-day fest by performing on an instrument made of bamboo.
The sand-model constructed as part of the diamond jubilee fellowship cultural training programme jointly organized by cultural department and corporation was inaugurated.

The trail run of the synchronized lighting system that transforms the beach into different colours was conducted. This will be in function from Saturday.

Various sports competitions will be held in the evenings and cultural programmes at night. An exhibition named ‘Body’ is also organised at the museum by 55 artists.

Mayor VK Prasanth presided over the function.
