Matheran - Asia's only automobile-free hill station
How about a visit to India’s smallest and Asia’s only automobile-free hill station. Of course, it is a must visit place in the bucket list of all those adrenaline junkies.
Tucked away in the Western Ghats at Raigad district in Maharashtra, this hill station can be accessed only on legs.
Matheran, meaning ‘forest on the forehead’ is an eco-sensitive region lying about 100 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune.
There are around 38 designated look-out viewpoints in Matheran, including the Panorama Point or the Sunrise Point that provides a 360-degree mesmerising view of the surrounding area. Louisa Point has views of Prabal Fort. Other viewpoints include One Tree Hill Point, Heart Point, Monkey Point, Porcupine Point also known as Sunset point, and Rambagh Point.
Monsoon season is the most sought out time to visit this natural beauty.
