Coracle ride, jungle safari, wildlife and more.. Rosemala charms visitors despite Covid restrictions
Thenmala: Amid Covid restrictions, the tourist centres in the eastern region are in full swing. Usually, tourists flock to Thenmala and Aryankavu all year round except summer season.
The main attractions here are the coracle ride and Kalamkunnu safari. The coracle boat ride facility was arranged near the Pallamvetty earth dam two years back. At present, the tourism department draws an average income of over Rs 1.5 lakh per month.
Visitors from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam arrive at Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary. The catchment area of Parappar dam and the scenic mountain regions attract tourists.
Coracle ride for 30 minutes costs Rs 100 for an adult. Covid protocols are strictly followed.
The Kalamkunnu safari starts from Thenmala dam road in a jeep and goes into the forest for over 1 km. The visitors can enjoy the mesmerising view of Western Ghats and the Parappar dam regions on the trip. The safari costs Rs 50 per adult.
With the onset of summer, wild elephants and wild buffaloes can be seen grazing near the shallow regions of the dam, during the Idimuzhangan Umayar safari.
The view of Parappar from the Rosemala viewpoint is another attraction. As the water level in the dam receded, the isles can be seen clearly. A person has to pay Rs 40 to enter the viewpoint.
The tourism department collects an income of over Rs 2 lakh per month.
Renovation of the road from Aryankavu to Rosemala also adds to the increased number of visitors here.
