Take a virtual tour of famed Ooty botanical garden
Though all events were cancelled due to COVID pandemic, people still got to visit many tourist places virtually, at the comfort of their homes. One such virtual tour was organized at the Ooty botanical garden under the leadership of Nilgiri collector J Innocent Divya.
The virtual tour starts at the entrance of the garden and leads to several points where one can have 360° view. At some points the tour takes you so near the flowers that you want to sniff them.
The renowned flower show which is being held for over 125 years was cancelled only once in history, in 2000 after estate labourers protested. However, this is the first time, a virtual tour is being conducted.
This year, the flower show was held with selected visitors. Only, the health workers in the frontline of COVID fight was permitted entry. Collector had approved special passes to honour their services. But the usual horse racing, rose fest and vegetable fest were not held. In the previous year, more than 3 lakh visitors had arrived for the flower show held in 5 days.
The Ooty botanical garden was opened by the British in 1847. This year, it was to celebrate the 124th flower show. All preparations were in place for the show scheduled in May. However, Covid pandemic disrupted the plans and no visitors were allowed.
