Kozhikode: Sea... It existed only in their dreams until yesterday. It was a dream come true for both 5-year old Rajesh and mother Girija when they set foot for the first time on the beach sand in Kozhikode. Rajesh’s friends Pradin and Ani were in wonder when the cold water wave brushed their foot.
As part of ‘Harikiranam’ project, 34 families of the Kattippara tribal colony were taken to Kozhikode beach to see the sea.
‘This is the first time we are seeing a sea, never knew how it looked,’ said Bindu, one of the tribal woman. Apart from one of the families, the rest were seeing the sea for the first time in their lives.
These tribal families were taken to Kozhikode beach by Kattippara grama panchayat along with Kattippara Ayurveda dispensary. The group was led by panchayat president Baby Raveendran, P C Thomas, Baby Babu, Dr K Praveen, tribal head K T Chandukutty.
Study materials and clothes were distributed to children in the program conducted at district Ayurveda hospital. The ‘Harikiranam’ project was explained by Kattippara panchayat vice president Nideesh Kallullathod.
