4 months, 28 states, 27500 km… A Malayalee couple’s dream journey around India in a car
Thiruvananthapuram natives Ranju and Parvathy, settled in New Zealand, set out on their dream all-India trip recently. They left their jobs in New Zealand, sold the car, rented out their house and flew to India for a one and half years’ break - to do what they always had wanted to do – travel all around India.
When others came to know about their decision, many discouraged. But it didn’t shake their determination.
Ranju and Parvathy, started their journey on May 1, on their 8th wedding anniversary. They started from Kerala in car to Karnataka, Goa and likewise to Kashmir. From there they then travelled to the north east states. They returned to Kerala a few days back.
Within 4 months, they travelled 28 states and the seven union territories. A teacher of Ranju encouraged them to set out on this venture.
Before leaving for the trip, they had decided to avoid night travels. "But we couldn’t stick to this plan," Parvathy told mathrubhumi.com.
The couple, till date have travelled 36 countries. The question, why not own country, led them to take this pan-India trip.
“We saw the 28 states, experienced them.. numerous villages, people, language, dress-style, food-style, different climates, nature and many more diversities. Many of the places in India resembles foreign countries, some are even more beautiful. Decades old temples – their architecture, murals and the wood carvings – it has to be experienced at least once in a lifetime,” she added.
However, she also said that they had to face some unfortunate incidents from Kashmir, Manipur and Tamil Nadu.
Ranju and Parvathy are planning to celebrate Onam with their families in Kerala and return to New Zealand in October. Also on their return journey they are hoping to spend four days in China.
