Kuttippuram (Malappuram): A group of mechanical engineering students at MES College of Engineering in Kuttippuram have come up with a technology to convert bikes older than 15 years into electric mode.
Re-registration is required to continue using bikes older than 15 years. So, the students introduced a technology to avoid re-registering old bikes and making them eco-friendly. By converting to electric mode, bikes can be used for a very long period. Also, the amount of pollution from vehicles can be reduced to a great extent.
Currently, the market price of electric scooter starts from Rs 60,000. But using this technology, old bikes can be converted to electric mode at the cost of Rs 15,000. These bikes can be charged at households and can travel upto 100 kilometres when charged for 7 hours.
Final year mechanical engineering students Adil Ali, C P Adil, Adhin Gopuj and K M Afsal Muhammed are the masterminds behind this invention. The bike conversion process was headed by the Mechanical Department head Dr I Rahmathunsa, M G Prince, Ali, Baby and lecturer of electrical department Shafi.
