Man develops multipurpose machine for exercising, doing household chores
Thrissur: When the COVID lockdown compelled all to stay inside, Vellangalloor native M A Iqbal developed a multipurpose machine that can be used for exercising and doing various household chores. The machine helps to scrape coconut, clean fish tank, inflate tyre, charge battery and sharpen knives along with exercising on it.
Iqbal is a driver at Thrissur regional office of vocational higher secondary wing of the education department. He created the multipurpose machine using scrap materials at a cost of Rs 10,000. First he arranged a damaged fitness machine and repaired it. Then it was connected to various other equipment using shaft and belt so that the pedalling movement of the machine is transferred to other machines.
The machine is set up in a vertical shed behind the house. Coconut can be scrapped within 3 minutes using the machine. Water from fish tank is pumped and purified and used for irrigating bitter gourd plants with the multipurpose machine. When a belt is connected, an alternator starts working and it charges a 12 volt battery.
The power from the plug can be used for charging mobile phone and other purposes. The battery is also used for lighting bulbs in the shed. A compressor linked to the alternator helps to inflate tyres. Iqbal took 10 days to develop the machine. Iqbal, his wife Mamtha and children Ajmal Roshan and Fidal Ajmal use the machine at home.
