Adoor: A group of students of Adoor SNIT Engineering College has created a ‘Smart Glove’ for helping the visually challenged and speech impaired persons. Fourth year BTech Electrical and Electronics students Aromal Suresh, Sachin Suresh Babu and Smrithi S. Namboothiri designed and created the glove with the help of teachers Shyam Krishnan and Lakshmi R. Nair.
The Smart Glove will help visually challenged persons to identify the presence and distance of objects in front of them. When people or objects come in the way of the person who wears the glove, it will give audio signal.
When the glove is hovered above the object, the name of the object can be heard via speaker. The glove also helps to convert movement of fingers in sign language into audio clips and displays the same through mobile phone.
The glove was developed from the concept to make an equipment for helping visual and speech impaired persons at affordable rate. The students are planning to produce the glove on an industrial scale using more accurate sensors.
