Degree student develops 3D printed automatic ventilator for COVID-19 patients
Chadayamangalam (Kollam): A BSc Electronics student has invented an automatic ventilator that can be used in households without intensive care units for COVID-19 patients.
Harikrishnan, a third year student of Ayoor Mar Thoma College, is the mastermind behind the invention. Those who are quarantined at houses and other places can use the automatic ventilator by themselves without intensive care unit and ventilator facilities.
The device can be used by battery charge or power connection and no experts are required to operate it. The peripheral devices of the ventilator were made by a 3D printer developed by Harikrishnan.
The young inventor also developed a face mask for health workers and hospitals using the 3D printer. He is waiting for the intervention of government agencies to utilize the inventions.
The guidance of the electronics department in Ayoor Mar Thoma College and Dr Mahesh, pediatric cardiology consultant in Kochi Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, also helped Harikrishnan in his invention.
Harikrishnan is son of Chithara Airakkuzhi native C. Anil, junior superintendent of AEO office, and Maya S Nair, a teacher at Pezhumoodu UP school.
