Seaweed to help fight Coronavirus; CIFT's discovery gets WHO approval
Thoppumpadi: Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) has found that seaweed is ideal for improving the immunity power of the body to fight COVID-19.
The article prepared by the researchers at the institute has already received approval from the World Health Organisation (WHO). This has been published in the official website of WHO.
The research article was prepared by scientists Ashish K Jha, Dr. Susheela Mathew and Director of the institute Dr. CN Ravishankar.
The article explains the possibilities of seaweed in enhancing the immunity power of the body. It has been proven that seaweed contains a lot of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamin contents and fibres.
CIFT developed various food products using seaweed including biscuits, cookies, juices, yoghurt and capsules. They also found out that seaweed can be used for manufacturing sanitizers as well.
This research by CIFT throws light into the various possibilities that seaweed offers in the fight against the pandemic.
CIFT director Dr. CN Ravishankar said they have identified the advantages of seaweed and tried to take it to general public for their benefit.
