Kottakkal: Munduparambu native Sarath Mohan is all set to fly to Paris for a long-distance cycling event. Cycling is his passion. It was his biggest dream to participate in the Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) bicycle race which will be attended by cycling champions across the world.
The PBP is originally a 1,200 km bicycle race from Paris to Brest and back to Paris in 90 hours. In the distance, the cyclists have to climb 10,000 meters of ascent.
Over 6,000 cyclists will participate in the race across the world. 386 participants have registered for the race from India. Among this, 15 are Keralites. In 2015, only 5 had participated in the race from Kerala.
Cyclists who has Super Randonnneurs (SR) badges are eligible to participate in the race. Randonneuring is a long-distance cycling sport. SR medal is awarded to cyclists who complete 200, 300, 400 and 600 kms in 13.30, 20.00, 27.00 and 40.00 hours respectively. Sarath Mohan had earned the SR badge last year.
After returning from Paris, Sarath is planning for a major ride across India. Sarath is a software engineer in an IT company in Bengaluru. He will fly to Paris on August 10 from Kozhikode airport.
