Minister MM Mani to hand over key of new house built for national athlete Shalini
Idukki: Minister MM Mani will hand over the house key to National sportswoman VK Shalini for whom a house was constructed by Nedungandam Service Cooperative Bank. The key will be handed over on Monday at 4 pm. Since Shalini is undergoing training in Patiala, her mother Shantha will receive the keys from the minister. The bank constructed the house at a cost of Rs 8.25 lakhs on its 50th anniversary after Minister EP Jayarajan, who came to know about the athlete's plight, informed the bank.
Shalini and her mother stayed in a two- room house in Nedungandam panchayat earlier. Shalini and her elder sister were brought up by their mother, a daily wage worker, after their father left them. They did not get a house through Life Mission as they did not have the documents of the land. The house was constructed under the supervision of M Sukumaran, who is a member of Nedungandam Service Cooperative Bank and also vice president of District sports council.
The family was given the document of the land with the special permission from the district collector. The key will be handed over to Shantha maintaining all COVID-19 safety protocols. Bank president NK Gopinathan, secretary Molly Thomas informed that only a few people will take part in the key handing over ceremony.
