Grandmaster Nigel Short to visit Kerala
Thrissur: Former world chess championship finalist and Fide vice president Nigel Short will visit Kerala on December 5. Nigel, a British grandmaster, will be on a five-day tour to Kerala. Chess Kerala has invited him to the state.
He will head to Kerala after holding a coaching programme for young chess players in Bangladesh.
The 54-year-old former chess player posed a challenge to Garry Kasparov’s world title.
Short has requested to allow a meeting with education minister C Raveendranath. He will ask the minister to include chess in the school syllabus.
A special coaching session will be carried out by the grand master for 50 chess players. The coaching class will be held on December 8 in the morning at Kalamassery SCMS campus. In the afternoon session, Nigel Short will compete with 20 to 25 players at a time.
He will arrive at Nedumbassery airport on December 5 in the evening. He will attend various programmes in Kerala from December 6 to 8.
