Chennai: Ending a 10-year drought, Kerala women’s team has lifted the national senior volleyball championship here on Thursday defeating the Railways.
This is Kerala’s 11th title. Earlier, the men’s team had settled for third place after losing to Punjab. Incidentally, it was the Railways that had been defeating Kerala for the last 10 years.
In an exciting contest that went back and forth, the two teams won two sets each going into the fifth and final set. While Railways won the first and third sets, Kerala won the second and fourth sets.
In the final set, the Kerala women’s team coached by Sadanandan came from behind to defeat the Railways 15-8 and scripted history.
