Ranchi: The first gold in the 26th National Federation Cup Athletics was bagged by Uttar Pradesh's Gulveer Singh in the men's 10,000m race. He finished the race in 29 minutes and 05.90 seconds.

Gulveer, the gold winner for the 10,000m race in the last National Games, said that race was tough.

Uttar Pradesh's Abhishek Palin and Delhi native Rohit Pal bagged silver and bronze medals, respectively. All contestants that finish in the top 11 cleared the Asian Athletics Championships qualification mark.

Maharashtra's Sanjeevani Yadav won gold in the women's 10,000m race by finishing in 33 minutes, 32.73 seconds. Unfortunately, no other contestant in the race could break the Asian Athletics Championships qualifying mark of 33 minutes.

The first event of the meet was the 10,000m run. There are five finals on the opening day of the games, including the 10,000 m race, women's hammer throw and Steeplechase.

The Asian Athletics Championships 2023 will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 12 to 16 July 2023.
