82-year-old Piravom ex-MLA MJ Jacob wins 2 bronze medals for India in Masters Athletics in Finland

Former Piravom MLA and CPM veteran MJ Jacob has won two bronze medals for India in the World Masters Athletics Tampere held in Finland.

Jacob won medals in the 200m hurdles and 80m hurdles competitions in the men’s M80 category (aged between 80-84).

He had secured three gold medals, for 80m hurdles, 200m hurdles and long jump in the Kerala state masters athletic meet last year. He had also won medals in Asia Masters Athletics and several other world meets.

Jacob represented the Piravom constituency for CPM in 2006. He was also served as Thirumarady panchayat president and Ernakulam district panchayat member.

Jacob was interested in sports from his childhood and a regular medal winner in his college days.

The World Masters Athletics Tampere 2022 from June 29 to July 10, is a world championship event for athletics (track and field) for male and female athletes aged 35 years and above. This competition is open to all athletes, with no qualification standards. But the athletes must be members of their respective national organisations.
