Kozhikode: Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has topped the survey conducted by Mathrubhumi Sports Magazine to find the best sportsperson of independent India. He grabbed a high margin of votes.
The opinion poll which was started in the last December gained traction from readers and sports enthusiasts. Thousands voted for their favourite sportspersons through mathrubhumi.com. The media house also garnered high responses in the form of letters.
Interestingly, Kerala athlete PT Usha bagged the second position in the survey. Meanwhile, the experts who write for the magazine suggested the name of Neeraj Chopra who won India’s first-ever gold medal in athletics (javelin throw) at the Tokyo Olympics as the best sportsperson of India.
