Mumbai City destroys ATK Mohun Bagan 5-1 to top in ISL
Goa: Mumbai City FC destroyed a well-disciplined yet far from the best ATK Mohun Bagan side 5-1 in the Indian Super League campaign at the Fatorda Stadium here on Wednesday. Antonio Habas received his heaviest ISL defeat ever. Mumbai City FC was far superior even though they were lucky with a couple of wrong refereeing decisions which came in their favour. With the win, Mumbai topped the table on goal difference.
Vikram Prathap Singh opened the scoring for Mumbai in the 5th minute from a well-delivered pass from Bipin Singh from the flanks. Minutes later Vikram scored his second in the 25th minute thanks to another assist from Bipin. Igor Angulo made it 3-0 for Mumbai City FC in the 38th minute after a sloppy effort from ATK Mohun Bagan in handling set-pieces.
Mohun Bagan’s Deepak Tangri was sent off a minute into the second half for a reckless foul on Vikram Pratap. Kolkata side struggled to cut off much of the offensive threat posed by Mumbai throughout the match. However, they also failed in clearing the set pieces as well. Mourtada Fall scored Mumbai City FC’s fourth goal through a comfortable header from Ahmed Jahouh’s freekick in the 47th minute. Bipin Singh’s excellent performance finally gifted him the chance to score the fifth goal for his team in the 52nd minute.
The only consolidatory goal for Mohun Bagan came through David Williams’s brilliant strike in the 60th minute. Mumbai continued to dominate the game until the very last.
