ISL: In-form Odisha defeats East Bengal 6-4 to secure second win of season
Goa: In-form Odisha FC managed their second win of the new ISL campaign after defeating SC East Bengal FC 6-4 in Tilak Maidan here on Tuesday. In a match that saw 10 goals, Odisha FC dominated a rather desperate Kolkata side who were looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season.
East Bengal took the lead through a strike from Darren Sidoel thanks to the clumsy defensive work from Odisha in clearing a long ball. However, Hector Rodas equalised for Odisha in the 33rd minute through a well time header from a free-kick. Rodas went on to give Odisha a lead just 7 minutes late with another header this time from the corner. Javi Hernandez who assisted for the first two goals bags a goal for himself in the 45th minute to take the lead 3-1 before half time.
Odisha managed a fourth goal in the 71st minute through a fine freekick from Aridai Cabrera. However, East Bengal managed to bounce back to make it 4-2 in 81st minute, thanks to Semboi Haokip's effective strike in the 81st minute. But their hopes were shattered a minute later when Isak Vabkakruatfela scored his first goal for Odisha to increase the lead.
In the dying minutes of the game, Chima scored a double for East Bengal hoping a miracle. However, Odisha held on to their dominance until the last whistle just before Aridai Cabrera found his second goal of the night.
With the win, Odisha go second in the points table, behind ATK Mohun Bagan on goal difference.
