Nagjee: Late strikes secure Dnipro win over Argentina U-23
Kozhikode: It was yet another heartbreak for the Argentina fans as two late goals saw Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk pipping the Latin American junior squad by two goals in a tensed match at the Sait Nagjee Club Football tournament here on Friday.
With two wins in two matches the Ukrainian club has almost booked a berth in the semis. On the other hand, two consecutive defeats have made the road ahead tough for Argentina.
The match saw attacks and counter attacks from both sides throughout the 90 minutes and also a plethora of missed chances. Argentina’s Pedro Sosa’s shot flew past the post twice before the drinks break. The first half ended with Dnipro taking back-to-back corner kicks but the goal remained elusive.
In second half, Dnipro let go some golden chances while Argentina too made some fine moves. The disappointment eventually turned into tension as the players had altercations on two occasions and the referee had to intervene. Dnipro’s Vitally and Kochergin spoiled two more chances.
As the match slipped into dying moments, the goals arrived. In the first minute of injury time, Yuri vakulko netted one and moments later Vitally Kiryeyev found target again.
