Lucky ATK salvage 2-2 draw against Hyderabad
Hyderabad: ATK managed to salvage a point against Hyderabad FC thanks to mistakes from the referee and the opposing goalkeeper at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium here on Saturday.
Two goals each from Bobo and Roy Krishna resulted in the match ending at 2-2.
The result moved ATK into the second spot on the Indian Super League (ISL) table with 15 points from 9 games. Hyderabad remained rock bottom with just five points from 5 games.
Both teams were deployed in a 4-4-2 formation. Though the hosts tried to take the game to ATK, the visitors quickly put the Hyderabad defense under pressure.
An awful refereeing decision resulted in a penalty in the 13th minute.
Roy Krishna crossed the ball to Javier Hernandez inside the box. The Spaniard took a couple of touches and tried to hit the ball into the back of the net. However, Asish Rai blocked it out with his chest but the referee thought it was handball. He signalled to the spot instantly.
Replays showed that it was a very harsh decision. Roy Krishna stepped up and finished calmly. It was 1-0 after 15 minutes.
ATK looked to maintain their lead and hit Hyderabad on the counter. However, the hosts drew level through a good header from Bobo in the 35th minute.
Nestor Jesus Benitez crossed the ball from the right and into the ATK penalty box. Bobo, got in between two defenders, leaped high above them and headed the ball home. Hyderabad FC were right back in the game.
After that, the match looked like it was heading for a draw but Bobo was at it once again in the 85th minute. Marcelo Pereira crossed the ball into the box from the left. Bobo, who was not really attacking the ball, managed to direct the ball into the back of the net brilliantly.
It looked like Hyderabad was all set to stage a huge upset but a mistake by keeper Kamaljit Singh in the final minute of normal time ruined their day.
An ATK attack was squandered by the Hyderabad defense and the ball was safely back in Kalmaljit’s hands. However, the keeper sliced his clearance and it fell to Javier Hernandez who headed it into the path of Roy Krishna. The ATK forward saw the keeper rushing out and lobbed the ball over his head and into the net.
Adil Khan is furious and has a spat with his own keeper. But it’s all over and it ends 2-2.
