Kozhikode: Noted sculptor Manoj Kumar created the life-size sculpture of legendary footballer Diego Maradona at his studio in Kannur.

The seven-and-a-half-foot-tall sculpture made of clay was modelled after carefully studying photos, videos, and others of the late Argentinian legend. Upon its installation, it will become the largest life-size sculpture of Maradona in Kerala.

Manoj Kumar has carefully analysed the subtle emotions and mannerisms of Maradona in his work. Further, the sculpture was modelled on the basis of a decision that it should exhibit the same vitality and energy shown by the late football icon in structure and form.

The sculpture is likely to be installed in Kannur. Samjoth Echoor and Prajil Varam assisted Manoj Kumar in the work.

Manoj Kumar N, hailing from Kannur, has done various sculptures, including those of Kumaran Asan and K Raghavan. He has similarly finished the sculpture of Malayalam short story writer T Padmanabhan, which will be unveiled on November 21 at Mahe.
