Kolkata: Indian Super League outfit ATK Mohun Bagan on Saturday ended their long term association with manager Antonio López Habas after a disappointing start of the new ISL campaign that leaves the Kolkata outfit with just two victories in the opening six games. Habas’s assistant Manuel Cascallana will be the interim coach.
Mohun Bagan had a great start in the new season with two back to back wins in the opening matches. However, the team failed to rekindle the same magic as they slipped further down the table. Habas' side has unconvincing draws against Chennaiyin FC and Bengaluru FC, which was very disappointing considering the dominating performance in the last season.
Habas is one of the most successful managers in ISL with two league titles under his belt. The 64-year-old Spaniard led the Atletico de Kolkata side to clinch the ISL trophy in the inaugural season followed by a semi-final finish in the next campaign. After having a brief stint with the now-defunct Pune City side, Habas returned to Kolkata giants in 2019 and won his second league title. Following this, he had a solid season last term out in the league, which saw the team finish second, only to be bettered by the Mumbai City FC in the final.
