Indian Navy defeated defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC 6-5 to lift Kerala Premier League trophy

Kozhikode: Indian Navy defeated defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC 6-5 to lift Kerala Premier League trophy at the Corporation Stadium here on Saturday.

Both teams failed to score in the first half. But the second half saw one goal each from both sides. In the 78th minute, P M Britto scored a penalty to break the deadlock and give Indian Navy the lead.

Three minutes later, Gokulam was awarded a penalty after Christian Saba was fouled inside the area by Anopp Pauly. Saba stepped up to level the score.

The match went to penalties after both teams failed to score again. Both teams scored four times each taking the match to sudden death. Both teams converted another penalty to keep the scores level.

However, Gokulam’s hopes went out along with P Sameel’s strike that was well wide of the target. Abhishek N Joshy calmly converted his kick to give the Navy a memorable victory.
