India in a tight spot after losing to Oman 1-0
Muscat: India fell to another loss against Oman in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium here on Tuesday.
Lone goal by Muhsen Al-Ghassani in the 33rd minute settled a cagy encounter which was marked by injuries for India. Muhsen redeemed himself for missing a penalty in the seventh minute.
India found it tough going forward against a physically imposing and well drilled Oman. The hosts were happy to keep the ball and take advantage of any space left behind by the inexperienced visitors.
The result keeps the men in blue in fifth spot with three points from five games. Oman are in the second spot with 12 points from as many games. They are likely to qualify behind Asian champions Qatar who are a point ahead on the table.
The result means that India will have to win the games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to finish third in the group and qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup.
