Dhaka: Gokulam Kerala FC has entered the semi-finals of Sheikh Kamal International Cup in Bangladesh. The Durand Cup winners defeated I-League champions Chennai City FC 2-1 in the group stage match.
Henry Kiseke and Lalromawia scored both goals for Gokulam Kerala in the first half of the game. With this, Gokulam became the first team from Kerala to enter the semi-finals of an AFC accredited tournament.
Gokulam played the first half without star striker Marcus Joseph, who had just returned from his International duties. Still, Gokulam was able to exert dominance right from the whistle. Kiseke created the first chance of the match, but his powerful shot was stopped by Chennai City goalkeeper.
The first goal came from a free kick taken by Nathaniel Garcia. The rebounded ball was hit towards the goal by Henry but was stopped by the keeper. However, on retrieving the ball, Henry passed to Lalromawia, who scored.
The second goal was also created by Nathaniel’s free kick. Henry didn’t miss this time around.
Captain Marcus Joseph came on as a substitute in the second half. The skipper along with Henry controlled the game well and could have scored more.
