Mapusa (Goa): Former Indian football team goalkeeper and Keralite EN Sudhir passed away. In the 1970s, he emerged as one of the finest goalkeepers in the nation and represented the national team for nine international matches.
Sudhir’s international debut was against Indonesia in 1972, for the qualifier of the Olympics. He was also a part of the team for the 1973 Merdeka Cup and the 1974 Asian Games.
He had represented three states in various Santhosh Trophy matches. He played for Kerala in 1969 and 1970, Goa in 1971 and 1972 and Maharashtra in 1975.
Sudhir played for different football clubs, including Young Challengers, Goan Club Vasco Sports Club and Mahindra and Mahindra.
Sunando Dhar, acting General Secretary of All India Football Federation, in his condolence message, said: "Sudhir will always remain alive in his achievements. He has been an inspiration for so many generations. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace."
