Kolkata: Chennaiyin FC gained three vital points by defeating ATK FC 3-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Sunday.

Goals from Rafael Crivallaro (7) and Andre Schembri (39) had given the visitors a two goal lead but Roy Krishna pulled one back just 10 seconds after conceding the second. Nerijus Valsakis Killed the game off with a goal four minutes into injury time.

The result moved Chennaiyin, who have 25 points from 16 games, up to fifth. Chennaiyin have improved their chances of finishing fourth in the ISL table and qualifying for the semi-finals.

They are now a point behind fourth placed Mumbai with a game in hand. The two teams will face each other in Mumbai on February 21 in Mumbai’s last match of the season. Chennaiyin will travel to Guwahati to face NorthEast United in their last match on February 25.

ATK remained second with 33 points from 17 games. They wasted a good opportunity to leapfrog FC Goa for the top position and a spot in the AFC Champions League (ACL).
