Under 23 women’s ODI tournament: Kerala enters knockout

Shimla: Kerala has entered the knockout stages of the under-23 women’s one-day cricket tournament with a seven wicket victory over Mumbai.

Mumbai, who were asked to bat first after losing the toss, were all out for 92 runs in 43.4 overs. Kerala chased the target in 34.1 overs with seven wickets to spare. Minnu Mani took four wickets for Kerala.

Among the Mumbai batswomen, only three could reach double figures. Only Shaheen (21) and M. Dakshini (23) showed some resistance to the fierce Kerala bowling. Besides Minnu Mani, Aneena Mathew took three wickets while Keerthy Kames took two wickets.

In response, I. V. Drishya (32), Jisna V. Joseph (20) and Aswathy Babu (16) led Kerala to victory. Aleena Surendran (9) and Minnu Mani (7) remained unbeaten.

From their eight matches in the preliminary round, Kerala had secured five wins and lost two while one game was abandoned.
