Kannur: At the age of six, a Shikar Dhawan fangirl has made it to the under-15 Kannur district cricket team. Rithika, a Class 2 student, embraced the achievement, all thanks to her sheer determination and support of her coaches.

Majority of the members in the team are above 10 years of age. It has been months years since this young cricketer started playing for the team.

Rithika got interested in cricket on seeing her elder brother play the sport. Soon enough, she began to practise at the Go Getters Cricket Academy in Kannur.

Rithika is the daughter of K Ratheesh and Babitha Babu, residents of Mayyil Town. The couple had decided to take her to participate in the team selection, held in Thalassery, thinking it would be a good experience.

However, the girl’s talent and passion paved the way for her selection into the training camp. Following which, she got selected into the district team too.

Initially, Rithika’s parents were worried about her playing alongside senior kids. Nevertheless, they were relieved to see her bat on the stadium ground.

“In the beginning, I was afraid to play with older sisters. Later, all my fears went away. I like bowling a lot and I wish to become a cricketer in future,” said Rithika.
