Sanju’s ton lifts Kerala to 219 vs J&K as Parvez Rasool picks 6
Thiruvananthapuram: On a day when Sanju V Samson struck his first century of the season, Parvez Rasool brought used his experience to bring his side back to the game.
The first day of the Rranji Group B clash between Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir at the St'Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground saw the hosts throwing away the advantage and getting bundled out for 219.
Kerala captain Sachin Baby won the crucial toss and chose to bat. Opener Vishnu Vinod (5) returned to pavalion in the 10th over when the score reached 19. At the same score the hosts lost in-form Rohan Prem (0). Hero of the last match, Jalaj Saxena, departed seven over later for 22. Though Sachin Baby tried to hold on, he became the first victim of Parvez Rasool, who trapped him in the front for 19.
Further, Sanju and Arun Karthik steadied the innings and when score reached 170, the hosts suffered a double jolt as Arun (35) and Salman Nizar (0) departed in the space of 16 balls. Sanju further tied to carry forward the innings in company of Sijomon Joseph and in the process brought up his first century of the season in 148 balls. However, Sijomon’s dismissal in 72nd over triggered a collapse as Kerala lost their last four wickets for just six runs. As Sanju made 112 off 187 balls (4x14, 6x1), four batsmen were dismissed for naught.
Parvez Rasool returned with figures 6-70 whereas Aamir Aziz and Mohammed Mudhasir shared two wickets each.
At stumps, J&K reached 16-0 with Ahmad Omar Banday (7) and Shubham Khajuria (7) at the crease.
