Robin Uthappa joins Kerala cricket team; first match on Monday
Kozhikode: Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa will play for Kerala in the new season of domestic cricket. He will play the first match on Monday. The match is against Himachal Pradesh as part of Dr. (Capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament organised by Karnataka Cricket Association held in Bengaluru.
Having Kerala roots, Robin Uthappa signed a contract with Kerala this season. He had played 59 matches for Indian team. He joined Kerala team last week and started practicing with the team members at Bengaluru Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
Kerala had reached semi-final of Ranji Trophy Championship in the last season. Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Jalaj Saxena will continue in the team but Tamil Nadu batsman Arun Karthik has not been included.
International coach Dav Whatmore who helped the team reach quarter finals and semi-finals in the two previous seasons will continue. Sony Cheruvathur and K. Rajagopal has joined as assistant coaches.
The team had tried to bring Karnataka wicketkeeper-cum-batsman Robin Uthappa to the team last season, but in vain. Later, Uthappa signed contract with Sourashtra, but he could play only a few matches due to injury. On Monday, he will be the opening batsman.
