Thiruvananthapuram: Rajasthan secured an 83 runs lead against Kerala on day one of the Ranji Trophy cricket match at the St'Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground here on Sunday.

After dismissing the hosts, who won the toss and chose to bat first, for just 90 runs, the visitors scored 173/4 on day one.

Opener Y. B. Kothari (66 from 136 balls not out) and R. K. Bishnoi (67 from 68 ballls) powered Rajasthan’s first innings. Captain Ashok Menaria is at the crease with 23 from 35 balls.

Earlier, R R Singh’s eight wicket haul helped Rajasthan dismiss Kerala for just 90 runs. Five of the Kerala batsmen returned to the pavilion for single digits while two could not open their account. Rohan Prem, who scored 18 from 83 balls was Kerala’s top scorer.

Kerala are playing without Robin Uthappa and Basil Thampi, who are injured and Sanju Samson and Sandeep Warrier who are on a New Zealand tour with the India A team.
