Ranji: Saxena picks 6; Rajasthan trails by 201 runs on Day 2
Thiruvananthapuram: After hitting a brilliant half century and forging a crucial partnership that saved Kerala on the opening day of Ranji Trophy Group B match against Rajasthan, Jalaj Saxena displayed his skills with the ball on the second day to push the guests on the back foot at the St'Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground here on Wednesday.
In reply to Kerala’s first innings score of 335, Rajasthan ended the day at 134-6 with Saxena claiming all the scalps.
Resuming the day at 232-3, Kerala were bundled out for 335 within 29 overs. Captain Sachin Baby hit a fine half century (78 off 142 balls, 6x4, 1x6) while Sanju V Samson missed another start and fell for 42.
Mohammed Azharuddeen tried to accelerate and was dismissed for 21 off 18 balls and none other could not make any vital contributions to the total.
For Rajasthan, Lomror claimed 4-51 while Menaria, Pankaj, Bishnoi Jr and Dhillon picked on each.
Rajasthan made a steady start and added 40 runs for the first wicket when Gautham was caught by Akshay off Saxena. When the score reached 70, Saxena dealt a double blow dismissing Robin Bist and Maneria in a space of two balls. D H Yagnik hold one end and make an effort to steady the innings in company of Lomror.
Again, Saxena turned up picking Yagnik (62) and Lomror (11) in consecutive overs. The day’s play ended when the right-arm off-spinner trapped Bishnoi Jr (5) in front of the wicket.
