Ranji: Kerala reeling at 188-8 vs Andhra
Guwahati: A top order collapse on the first day of their Ranji Group C campaign against Andhra saw Kerala struggling at 188-8 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here on Monday.
Right-arm medium pace Vijay Kumar wreak havoc for Kerala claiming 37-6 in 26.5 overs.
Only three Kerala batsmen -- Mohammed Azharuddeen (82), Rohan Prem (42) and Iqbal Abdulla (27) -- managed to find double-digit scores.
Earlier in the day, Andhra captain G H Vihari won the toss.
Asked to bat first, Kerala made a slow start adding 11 runs for the opening wicket in 9 overs. After Bhavin Thakkar (7) was dismissed by Ayyappa Bandaru in the first ball of 10th over, Vijay Kumar triggered the battling collapse and Kerala slumped to 36-4 in 23.5 overs.
While Vishnu Vinod and Sachin Baby scored six runs each Sanju V Samson went for a duck.
Mohammed Azharuddeen and Rohan Prem attempted to steady the innings, adding 71 runs for the fifth wicket. Further, Azharuddeen added 48 runs in company of Iqbal Abdulla. When 24 more runs were added to scoreboard, Vinod Kumar (8) lost his stumps to Ravi Teja.
In the fifth ball of the final over, Vijay Kumar claimed his sixth victim in the form of Mohammed Azharuddeen (82), who was caught by Ashwin Hebbar.
In Group C, Kerala is currently at the 5th spot having 15 points from 6 matches while Andhra Pradesh is topping the table with 22 points from as many matches.
