Ranji: Kerala lead Andhra by 222 runs
Guwahati: Riding on the half centuries of Rohan Prem and Bhavin Thakkar, Kerala secured a lead of 222 run on the penultimate day of the Ranji Trophy Group C campaign against Andhra at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday.
However, Andhra were successful in snatching the vital first inning lead.
Andhra resumed the day at 173-6 and lost two more wickets when the score reached 200. However, they ended the innings at 226 and managed to secure a slender but crucial first innings lead of 7 runs, thanks to the resistance shown by tail ender Ayyappa Bandaru (17).
Kerala lost the wicket of opener Vishnu Vinod (3) in the 7th order as the score reached 18. Bhavin and Rohan added 69 runs for the second wicket. Kerala lost two wickets in a space of 7 runs -- Bhavin who made 56 off 76 balls (6x4, 1x6) and Sanju V Samson (7). Mohammed Azharuddeen joined Rohan in the middle and the two in-form batsmen notched up a century partnership taking Kerala to 201 runs. after Rohan (89) was trapped in front by Sasikanth, vice-captain Sachin Baby walked out.
At 228, Vijay Kumar dismissed Azharuddeen (36).
When stumps were drawn, Kerala reached 229-5 with Sachin Baby (17) and Iqbal Abdullah (1) at the crease.
Vijay Kumar, who grabbed 6 wickets in the first innings, has claimed three scalps in the second outing so far.
