Ranji: Disappointment for Kerala as match ends in draw
Bhubaneshwar: B Anirudh’s maiden first class century and handy knocks from the top order shattered Kerala’s hope for a victory in the final day of the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Hyderabad at the KIIT Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.
In reply to Kerala’s first innings score of 517-9, Hyderabad managed to score 281 in the first turn and reached 220-3 in the second innings when both captains agreed to a draw. Thanks to the first innings lead, Kerala bagged three points while Hyderabad secured one point.
Resuming at their overnight score of 231-7, Hyderabad lost remaining wickets in just 10.3 overs and were bundled out for 281. Mehdi Hasan (58) shone with the bat down the order.
Sandeep Warrier and K S Monish claimed three wickets each while Jalaj Saxena chipped in with one scalp.
Since Hyderabad conceded a first innings deficit of 236 runs, Kerala captain Rohan Prem enforced a follow-on and Hyderabad openers Tanmay Agarwal and Akshath Reddy added 25 runs for the first wicket in 5.4 overs.
After Jalaj Saxena caught Tanmay (6) off his own bowling, Anirudh joined Reddy in the middle. At 67, Akshath (27) lost his stumps to Iqbal Abdulla. Captain S Badrinath walked out and together they put up a crucial 122-run partnership for the third wicket. In the 57th over, K S Monish trapped Badrinath (39) in front of the wicket.
B Sandeep (11) and Anirudh negotiated 13 more overs adding 31 runs to the total. Anirudh's innings of 120 off 192 balls was studded with 14 fours and two sixes.
