Kerala enters Ranji Trophy semi-final for first time; beats Gujarat by 113 runs
Krishnagiri (Wayanad): Kerala has created history and entered the semi final of the Ranji trophy for the first time. Kerala bowled out Gujarat for 81 runs to enter the semi-final with Basil Thambi's splendid bowling performance. Kerala beat Gujarat by 113 runs.
Basil Thampi who took 5 wickets is the man of the match. The historic win was achieved due to the excellence of pacers. Gujarat lost grip of the game before the pace bowlers of Kerala.
Basil Thampi took 5 wickets in 12 overs and Sandeep Warrier took 4 wickets in 14 overs. Though M D Nidhish didn’t take any wickets, he did not give away much runs to the opponents.
The semi-final match also will be conducted at Krishnagiri in Wayanad.
Gujarat’s batting squad, on its trace of 195 runs target to edge out Kerala, perished before the bowlers of the host team in the Ranji Trophy quarter final match here on Thursday at Krishnagiri.
Basil Thambi of Kerala took 5 wickets for 58 runs. Gujarat posted a score of 81 for 10 wickets.
Basil Thampi sent back Gujarat’s Kathan D Patel (5), P K Panchal (3) to the pavilion while Kerala captain Sachin Baby dismissed the opponents’ captain Parthiv Patel in a run-out.
Earlier, Kerala was dismissed for 171 runs in the second innings. Sijomon Joseph (56) and Jalaj Naksena (44) had put up a good show against Gujarat. With the first innings’ lead of 23, Kerala gave a 195 target before Gujarat to cross the victory line.
