Shimla: Kerala entered the quarters final of Ranji Trophy for the second consecutive time defeating Himachal Pradesh for five wickets.
Kerala had to win the last match to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. Himachal’s decision to declare also helped Kerala’s cause. With four wins, three defeats and a draw from eight matches, Kerala gained 26 points to finish on top of elite group.
Chasing 297 in the second innings, Kerala reached the target on the backs of solid performances from Vinoop (96), captain Sachin Baby (92) and Sanju Samson (61 not out). Kerala also lost the wickets of P Rahul (14), Sijomon Joseph (23) and Mohammad Azharuddeen (0).
Earlier, Kerala wasted the opportunity to secure lead in the first innings. Chasing Himachal Pradesh’s first innings of 297, Kerala lost their last five wickets for just 18 runs to be bundled out for 286. Himachal Pradesh declared at 285/8.
