Karthik leaves India struggling at 24/4 against New Zealand
Manchester: India were off to the worst possible start against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final match here with openers Rohit Sharma, K. L. Rahul and captain Virat Kohli heading back to the pavilion with just 5 runs on the board.
Dinesh Karthik was dismissed by Matt Henry for 6 of 24 balls as James Neesham took a spectacular catch low down to his left.
It was a dream start for the Kiwis with pacers Trent Boult and Matt Henry dismissing the Indian top three in their first two overs. Henry dismissed the two Indian openers Rahul and Rohit while Boult claimed Kohli.
Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are at the crease with the Indian middle order exposed to the pace attack of the Kiwis. Technically speaking, the total is well within India’s reach, but the Kiwis have one of the most effective pace attack in the tournament.
It must be remembered that the Kiwis had dismissed India for 179 during the World Cup warm up match.
