Adelaide: Australia captain Pat Cummins could miss the second Ashes Test against England starting later Thursday after being a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case, a report said.
The Sydney Morning Herald said he was at an Adelaide restaurant on Wednesday evening when a person at the neighbouring table was identified as positive for coronavirus.
Cummins and others with him are said to have quickly left the venue and alerted authorities.
Cricket Australia had no immediate comment but one source told the newspaper it was "unlikely" he would play.
If Cummins is ruled out, vice-captain Steve Smith would become skipper for the first time since being axed in disgrace over his part in the "Sandpaper-gate" ball-tampering fiasco in 2018.
Cummins played his first Test as captain in Australia's nine wicket win over England at Brisbane last week after assuming the role when Tim Paine resigned over a text-message scandal.
His absence would be a big blow for the home team who are already without fellow paceman Josh Hazlewood who has a side strain.
